New Eastwood Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center Enhances Cardio Pulmonary Care Program, Adding Piped-in Oxygen and In-wall Suctioning Capabilities
Easton, Pa., Skilled Nursing Facility’s Specialized Programs Meet Area Needs
New Eastwood Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center, a Marquis Health Services member, has enhanced its Cardio Pulmonary Care Program, introducing piped-in oxygen and in-wall suctioning capabilities. The initiative continues Marquis’ enhancement of New Eastwood’s specialty programming following the completion of a multi-million-dollar capital campaign to modernize the 97-bed facility in Easton.
New Eastwood’s physician-led Cardio Pulmonary Care Program focuses on promoting independence and quality of life through reducing symptoms and decreasing disability in heart and lung patients, while increasing their participation in physical and social activities. The program is tailored for individuals with a range of diagnoses.
The facility’s new piped-in oxygen capabilities promote ease of breathing for patients by enabling the use of Oxymizer and Optiflow therapies. In-wall suctioning provides increased comfort for those with loss of oral motor control, who require frequent Yankauer suction. By enhancing pulmonary hygiene and ease of care, in-wall suctioning also decreases anxiety for patients with tracheostomies.
“These key program enhancements further ensure the comfort and best possible outcomes for our cardio pulmonary patients at New Eastwood, and very likely will enable shorter stays as well,” said Marquis’ Norman Rokeach, chief executive officer. A recognized leader in providing subacute rehabilitation and skilled nursing care, Marquis operates nearly 3,000 beds at its 22 Mid-Atlantic and New England facilities.
New Eastwood’s healthcare team works closely with board-certified pulmonologist Dr. Gerald Lowman and cardiologist Dr. Koroush Khalighi, who oversee the facility’s Cardio Pulmonary Care Program. In addition to consults with these physicians and other board-certified specialists, New Eastwood heart and lung patients benefit from a full-time respiratory therapist and certified nurses on staff, 24/7 access to lab and radiology services, on-site and full-time respiratory therapy, as prescribed, and a comprehensive range of additional services and therapies.
“Developing specialized programming with leading doctors and hospitals is a hallmark approach at Marquis,” noted Rokeach. “To meet healthcare needs in the Easton and greater Northhampton County area, New Eastwood is providing a quality post-hospitalization option for cardio pulmonary care and treatment.”
The Cardio Pulmonary Care Program also includes on-site, monthly support group meetings for adults and their caregivers. At the meetings, speakers address key topics on cardio pulmonary health and participants have a general discussion, offering peer-to-peer support.
Located at 2125 Fairview Avenue in Easton, New Eastwood Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center provides post-hospital care, short-term rehab and long-term residential care; it is adjacent to Easton Hospital. New Eastwood maintains a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
Brick, N.J.-based Marquis Health Services, the healthcare affiliate of Tryko Partners, is a family-owned organization with three generations of skilled nursing involvement. Today, 75 percent of the Marquis Health Services portfolio has received four- and five-star ratings for outstanding care.
